Keys open spaces, but they also teach how to move through them. In videogames, spare keys unlock side paths, hidden rooms, or moments that only appear once you notice a break in the pattern. They train attention, teaching when to slow down, when to prepare, when to act. I learned early to prepare the key before reaching the door at night. To wait until the lock clicked shut behind me. To enter quickly, turning my body as I closed the door in the same motion.
