As a child, I was drawn to things that promised order. I liked marking days, counting down, preparing for moments that felt important simply because they were announced in advance. I wanted a Filofax after seeing one in an Olsen-Twins movie. Once I got hold of it, I realized I had nothing important to track. Still, I carried it with me everywhere, as if its emptiness held a promise.
I didn’t yet understand that these tools were not toys, but instruments designed to organize time and behavior. They suggest that time can be owned, controlled, and improved. A systeme shaped by ancient leaders and long forgotten authorities.
